changes under St. Clair East

St. Clair Ave East passes over a ravine just east of Yonge St. 

a view of the bridge from a path in the ravine from a short distance away. It is winter so there is some snow and ice on the path and the trees have no leaves.

The Yellow Creek flows through this ravine.
To the north, the creek is underground until the south side of Mount Pleasant cemetery.

The ground was slippery and the water in the creek was flowing quickly. 
  In other words, I didn’t cross over to the other side of the bridge.

At some point in the past year the graffiti that was under this bridge must have been “cleaned up”.  Since then, new tags have appeared.
Whether they are an improvement over what was there previously is a matter of opinion.

It is difficult to do justice to the paintings with a camera because of the structure of the bridge.   The following images are ones that I took yesterday.  Yes, there are many!

Location: railway bridge over Woodbine Ave., just north of Gerrard St.

This underpass was transformed this past summer.  Raidi’aal Encompass, by Toronto based graffiti artist IAH Digital (Mediah).   It was done as part of StreetARToronto Underpass Program.

under Mt. Pleasant Road

Between Lawrence and Eglinton, Mt. Pleasant Road passes over Burke Brook and Blythwood Ravine Park.
This is the graffiti that I saw under that bridge.

I am beginning to wonder how many bridges there are in Toronto!  Yesterday I walked under three that I hadn’t been under before.  These are the photos from one of those bridges – Bathurst Street over Cedarvale Park, just north of St. Clair Ave.

havenbrook

I ventured north today, north of the 401….. to Havenbrook Park which is just far enough north to access the bridge under the 401 just east of Leslie Street.  I went there because I had heard that some interesting graffiti could be found under the bridge.  As you can see, someone beat me to it.  It’s all gone, all cleaned up.

There is a small, and boring, amount of graffiti across the river and up the hill.   If I also wanted to climb the fence, I could access a bit more graffiti.  My cane was handy for managing the incline down to the river but that was the limit of my adventuring for today.

Having said that, there was this one piece of graffiti:

a stencil graffiti in black and white of a woman's face.

The graffiti had been cleaned up and so had the surroundings.  It was probably the cleanest of the bridges that I have been under in Toronto.  I saw rocks, dirt, water, paw prints and not much else.
