Old Blog Entries
Now that the newer part of the blog is taking shape, I have started moving the old blog entries to a separate page in order to avoid confusion. A lot of the photos on this page are also on my website, http://www.asIwalkToronto.com

WALKING TORONTO
A site about the Toronto I see as I walk the city.
This page now contains most of the older (pre May 2013) blog posts. I have arranged them in alphabetical order by title.

SUNNYSIDE BEACH
Sunnyside beach, one of the string of beaches along Lake Ontario. It is located at the foot of Roncesvalles Ave.
The area was formed as part of a waterfront reclamation project in 1910. In its early years it was the home of the Sunnyside Amusement Park. When the Gardiner Expressway was built in 1955, the amusement park was dismantled.

WATERFRONT BIA PHOTO CONTEST
Two of my photos were chosen as finalists in the 2012 Waterfront BIA (Business Improvement Association) photo contest. The first was one that I took late in July at Sugar Beach (shown below). The second was a photo of canoes and kayaks being stored on the shore that I took back in March.

WORDS OF WISDOM
Words I have read while walking. Words of sentiment, profanity, wisdom, stupidity, creativity, humour and many others. Words written in paint, chalk and pen on walls, sidewalks, fences, vehicles, telephone poles, and almost every other surface!

YONGE STREET
It used to be said that Yonge Street was the longest street in the world. Yonge Street used to be part of highway 11 and that highway was 1186 km long, running from Lake Ontario, past Lake Simcoe and the town of North Bay, north of Lake Superior, and then south again to the town of Rainy River on the Ontario/Minnesota border. Surveying for the southern (Toronto) end of the road began in 1794 but highway 11 wasn’t completed until 1965.
By 1827 Yonge Street reached the town of Barrie and it is here that Yonge Street actually ends.
