The other day a friend asked me what my passions were. I stammered and stuttered. I hadn’t really thought about it before and being somewhat verbally challenged, I had difficulty answering the question. Photography? Yes and no. Yes I like taking pictures but there is more to it than that.
I have always liked Toronto but I didn’t realize how many wonderful things there are about this city until I spent a few months away. It is a very camera friendly city, full of interesting locations. The natives are diverse yet friendly. I appreciate the relative safety of its streets and alleys as I walk almost anywhere without hesitation.
Life is made of stories. The stories we create for ourselves as well as the stories we want to share with others. Not every picture needs to tell a story but I find satisfaction from telling stories through a collection of photographs. The bigger picture and the details are both important.
More than anything else, I like being a part of the fabric of this city. As this blog evolves I have come to the conclusion that it’s not just photography and it’s not just Toronto that is my passion, but the interconnection between the two. How to use photography to tell some of the stories that Toronto has to share, stories large and small. There are places and events in Toronto that are familiar to most people, but this city has numerous ‘short stories’ that most of us, including me, don’t know about. One blog by one person can’t tell all the stories but I hope that I can at least contribute to the library as I explore and discover this great city.
I will continue adding to the blog as long as I continue walking and for as long as there are stories to tell. Let’s see what we can find!

Great shots! Thanks for the postcard. I got it so long ago and it ended up under a pile of papers. I’m just getting to organizing stuff and found it again. I love the way you have described parts of Toronto and photographed them. Looking forward to seeing more.

I forgot to say in the comment just added to one of your posts — thank you for following my blog. I see here we share motivations for walking Toronto and reactions to the city, but you’re definitely the better photographer. Now I’ll click on your Peru/Bolivia blog, since (decades ago) I was a CUSO volunteer in Peru & later visited Bolivia as well. Thanks again.
And thank you for following me. I read a few of your posts last night and yes, there are definitely similarities between us! My emphasis has always been on the photography angle in part because I have trouble with words, or at least with making words flow well. You seem much more at ease with the writing part!
My whole professional background is words, so my photos initially had a very minor role & even though I’m much more image-centered now, I still don’t think of myself as a photographer.
Just to let you know another mural is coming to Reggae Lane this summer and we will be celebrating again with a big event and music series on Saturday, July 16th. We hope you can make it out.

Happened across your blog today after Googling the street my father grew up on. The St. Clair mural project image from Spring Grove and St Clair will have significance to my dad’s youngest brother – the last remaining one of the family – who will remember the woman in the old black and white photograph in the mural: Mrs Martin from 1930. After emailing him the link I returned to your blog and got lost on the streets of my hometown. I grew up there in the 70s, 80s and 90s. I haven’t lived there for a long time but I always enjoy a visit. Scrolling through your site felt like a that, so many familiar textures, corners and streetscapes among your photos. Thank you. 🙂
