below: IATSE Local 58 led the parade this year. They have been locked out of the CNE who brought in workers from Quebec and Alberta to help set up the Ex this year. Usually the parade ends at the CNE grounds at the Dufferin Gate and participants get free admission to the Ex. This year, the parade ended at Lamport Stadium instead.

I was going to post the election results in Toronto ridings but this picture (screenshot from the Toronto Star website) says it all much more concisely.  Red = Liberal and blue = Conservative.  The blue riding top center is Thornhill.  The other two that are only partly in the picture are Milton in the west and Markham-Stouffville in the east.

I’ve taken a screenshot of the map showing the voter turnout in the Toronto and area ridings, again from the Toronto Star.   The darker the purple, the higher the turnout.  The colours in the screenshot didn’t always match the colours on the website, so I added the numbers (the percent turnout for each riding).  As you can see, turnout varied between 59% and 76%; as a percentage, more people voted in city center ridings than in suburban ridings.

On Saturday afternoon there was a small rally under the trees of Queens Park.  It was attended by a number of Toronto federal NDP candidates and it was about repealing bill C-51.   C-51 has been called the Anti-Terrorism Bill although it’s full name is:  “An Act to enact the Security of Canada Information Sharing Act and the Secure Air Travel Act, to amend the Criminal Code, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service Act and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and to make related and consequential amendments to other Acts.”

It was passed in June of this year by the Conservative government with support of the Liberals.  The NDP and Green party have been against this bill since the beginning.  Part of the NDP platform for the present federal election is the promise to repeal Bill C-51 if they are form the next government.
